Twice

by Mitch Albom

Finally! This book took me out of a reading slump for sure! Hard to put into words - Mitch Albom does it again with this magical realism trope about a man who gets to repeat events in his life twice. Magically. Similar to the movie "50 first dates" but much deeper and more meaningful, this story spans a lifetime's ups and downs; and Alfie gets to do-over anything that he wants to, but just once. He can relive and change small things but just once. He lives each memorable moment twice. But the caveat is that he can't change the big things. Complex and wildly unrealistic, but as a reader you have to keep the hope and not analyze the details too much. Heartwarming doesn't do it justice. “What is it about love that makes us think we can tame it, when all the while it is taming us?” It's a love story, but not. It would make a great book club discussion.
