Circe

by Madeline Miller

Banished by Zeus because of her power, Circe is forced to live alone on her own island.  This gives her the opportunity to do 2 things, get to know mortals and develop her witchcraft.
I have always enjoyed Greek mythology, so Circe piqued my interest as a modern telling of her story. While I was somewhat familiar with her from The Odyssey, this novel gave her a voice, a perspective, and a curiosity that I really connected to. Madeline Miller turns a side character from myth into someone complex, lonely, resilient, and deeply human despite her immortal nature.
