Only the Beautiful

by Susan Meissner

This book is WWII era Historical fiction but isn't really about the war; it focuses on the plight of women during this era, and the eugenics program; this combination makes for a compassionate story well-told. Add in the provocative nature of being different (in this case, the protagonist has synesthesia) that quite often equals something society deems as "wrong" or something that we need to "fix" in a human being who is otherwise "normal". This book sparked great discussions in our book club. I highly recommend it.
