Flowers for Algernon

by Daniel Keyes

How have I never read this book before? Published first in 1959, Flowers for Algernon is a sometimes-banned book that you may have read in high school. At face value, it's a sci-fi trope involving brain manipulation and humanitarian efforts gone wrong. But there is so much more than that. Multi leveled, multi-faceted lessons can be gleaned from reading and rereading this book! It was a first-time read for me, but I remember hearing about it. I'm so glad I read it, it has had great impact on my life. A classic that after borrowing from the library, I purchased my own copy.
