by Shaun Tan
The Arrival is the wordless story of a man's journey to a new land and the challenges he faces adjusting. Through Tan's beautiful illustrations the reader shares the immigrant's heartbreak at leaving his family and his confusion upon arriving at his destination, a land like no other with a strange alphabet and even stranger foods and customs. As the man looks for work, food and a place to live, he encounters others who see their own past in his face, and wordlessly share their stories of journeys and arrivals.
I do not normally read graphic novels, but I am glad I picked this one up. Tan's illustrations are breathtaking and told the story so well I actually choked up at times. Everything about this book is beautiful.
