Program Description

Event Details

Wild Ones will be visiting our Garden Club meeting in May! If you've been hearing the term 'native plants,' come see why there's so much interest in them today. Using slides to introduce some of their favorites, Jean and Nancy will talk about small ways you can incorporate these forgotten geniuses -- and their benefits -- into your life.

Nancy Lamia, retired from both education and IT, has converted her city lot to native habitat. Learning from the Wild Ones organization, she is now helping to build momentum for planting native plants through their Start In Your Yard initiative.

Jean Muntz's evolution to gardening with natives has come about the last 30 years. She and husband Dave have been returning natives to their property, a degraded farmland, located near Burnidge Forest Preserve.

The Garden Club will meet on the third Monday of the month. As the year progresses, we'll exchange seeds, plants, harvests and tips. Did you purchase too many seeds of a particular variety this year? Feel free to bring them in to trade!
