Reopening and reintroduction of library services

Current state of Town and Country Public Library: Building open for limited Services

Town and Country Public Library is open to the public for limited services.  What does this mean?

All persons entering the library must wear a face covering and must maintain a six foot distance from all other persons when practicable. Reasonable accommodations such as curbside service and online resources are available to those who are medically prevented from or decline to wear a face covering. Those refusing to wear a face covering and/or to maintain six foot distance when practicable shall be required to leave the library. 

  • Patrons may enter building to pick up holds, select materials, and for limited computer use but are asked not to linger.
  • Social-distancing provisions, such as unidirectional aisles and 2 person per aisle limit, will be in place.
  • Patrons are asked to us the sanitizing station at front entrance upon entering.
  • Study rooms, meeting rooms, the coffee bar, and the Storytime area will remain closed.
  • Youth playhouse and toys will not be available and all cloth furniture will be removed.
  • Patrons are asked to wipe down computer keyboards, mice, and surrounding table surfaces with the provided antiseptic wipes after use.
  • Staff will not be able to directly assist with copiers or computers.
  • No Passport Services available.
  • No Notary Services available.
  • A maximum of 40 patrons will be permitted in the library at one time.
  • Curbside services are still available.

Curbside Service Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday – Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Additionally, the Lawrence J. Martin Heritage Center will be closed to the public until further notice.

At this time there are no passport services or notary services available.

Our digital library is always open.

No fines will be assessed on materials at this time

Physical Materials

Our Outdoor Bookdrops are open and anyone wishing to return library materials may do so by using the bookdrops in front of our building.

Quarantining Returned Items

All returned items will be quarantined for 3 days before being placed back in circulation.  This mean returned items will remain on your account until, at least, the 3 day mark has passed.  Please note: no fines will be assessed on overdue items throughout the summer.

Borrowing items

Curbside Pick Up of materials is available.

Patrons are able to borrow items they’ve placed on hold through our catalog. Currently you can only place holds on Town and Country Public Library items. Those holds will remain in a queue, and you will be notified when your item is ready for pickup. Once notified, you can head to the library and a staff member will bring out your items for you.  Please do not exit your vehicle.  The staff member will place the items in your trunk.

Reciprocal borrowing is available, but only from libraries that have opened to the public and that are allowing the materials to be transferred between libraries.

Virtual Programming

Currently, Town and Country Public Library will not be hosting any in-person events. The library will offer virtual programs for every age group throughout the fall. LIBRARY OUTREACH

We are not offering Library Outreach at this time.  However, we are offering Door Drop Delivery Services to our homebound patrons.  If you, or someone you know, is homebound and would like access to library materials, please fill out the form on our Library Outreach page.

Phased Reopening Plan

It is important to remember that any plan to reopen be fluid enough to adapt to the constantly evolving information regarding COVID-19.  All decisions will be made following recommendations from the state, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Kane County Public Health authorities. .

PRIORITIZING SAFETY 

The health and safety of the community, as well as library staff, is our top priority.  With that in mind, we are open for limited services, with social distancing measures and a face mask requirement in place.

Putting the health, safety, and well-being of our community, our patrons, and our library staff first, we plan to reintroduce services following a carefully planned and research-informed approach.

As the threat of local infections diminishes, more library services and public space use will be reintroduced. Decisions about when will be made following orders and recommendations from Kane County Public Health authorities, the state of Illinois, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
