When is the library open?

The library is open:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In the case of inclement weather: If Kaneland school district is closed due to weather conditions, all Library programs will be canceled for that day. Information on weather-related closings will be posted on the Library’s social media and broadcast on WGN-TV.

How do I get a Library card in the Town and Country Public Library District?

Residents

If you live or own property in the Town and Country Public Library District you are entitled to a library card. Residents or renters can be verified on the Kane County Treasurer’s website here.

A resident may apply for a borrower’s card upon reaching the age of 5 (five) years.

The signature of a parent, guardian, or other legally responsible person is required for all persons under the age of 18 years.  Library cards are issued for 2 (two) years.

To obtain a Library Card, bring proof of identity and proof of residency to the Library.

  • Photo ID: driver’s license, state ID, military ID, or U.S. passport
  • Proof of Residency: current utility bill, real estate tax bill, rental agreement or lease, current credit card bill, or other legal document showing your name and current address

Lost or stolen cards must be reported to the Circulation Department as soon as possible.

Non-Resident Cards

If you do not live within the Town and Country Public Library District, information for non-resident cards may be found by clicking Borrower’s Cards.

Renewal

Library cards may be renewed at the desk.  There is no charge to renew your Library card. Please provide proof of identity.  Proof of residency may be required if you have moved.

Go to the Online Catalog. Enter your barcode and pin number and click on My Account or call 630-365-2244 and the Circulation Desk staff will be glad to help you.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

The FOIA is a state statute that provides the public the right to access government documents and records. The law provides that a person can ask a public body for a copy of its records on a specific subject and the public body must provide those records unless there is an exemption in the statute that protects those records from disclosure. The following items are intended to provide general information to facilitate the process of requesting information under FOIA.

The Town and Country Public Library District enhances the local quality of life by providing a gateway to knowledge and a community meeting place. (Library Mission Statement adopted 1/13/2014).

  1. The Library District’s annual budget is approximately $1,500,000. The Library employs approximately 25 staff members.
  2. Procedure for requesting information under FOIA
    1. The request must be written in a physical or digital form: forms are available at the Circulation Desk and from the designated FOIA officers.
    2. Physically written requests include those received by letter or fax.
    3. Please be as specific as possible about the type of information requested.
    4. The request should be directed to one of the FOIA officers listed below.
    5. Requests sent through the mail should be sent to one of the FOIA officers at this address: 320 E. North Street, Elburn, IL 60119.

  4. Fees
    1. The first 50 pages are provided free of charge, as long as they are a letter or legal size and are black & white.
    2. Any copies over 50 pages are $ .15 per page.
    3. The Library District does not charge for the search or review of records, or for personnel costs involved.
  5. Denial of Requests
    1. The requester will be notified in writing if the Library District intends to deny a request submitted under FOIA.
    2. If denied, the requester has the right to a review of the request by the Public Access Counselor.

The Library District will respond to written non-commercial requests within 5 business days from the day after the request is received, or within the exceptions as allowed by the statute. Additional FOIA information can be found at www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov.

Does the Library provide free internet access?

The Library provides 8 computers to the public for internet access. Four of these computers are located in the Youth Services area of the Library. Microsoft Word and other Office programs are available on all the computers. Printouts are available for $0.10 for black and white pages or $0.50 for color.

Does the library have free wireless internet access?

Wireless internet access is available throughout the building thanks to the generous support of the Shodeen Family Foundation.

Does the library have study rooms?

Two private study rooms have power sources for laptop computers, wi-fi, and LAN connection. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
