Adult Services Manager
Under the general supervision of the Library Director, the Adult Services Manager is directly responsible for all operations of the Adult Services Department, including setting goals and objectives, maintaining a budget, developing the collections, selecting and acquiring materials, offering educational and entertainment programming, and providing reference and readers’ advisory services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sets goals and objectives for the Adult Services Department
- Maintains the budget for the Adult Services Department, in coordination with the Library Director
- Develops and maintains the Adult and Reference collections
- Selects and orders all materials for the Adult Services Department, including print, audio-visual, and electronic materials and services
- Weeds the Adult Services collections
- Develops, promotes, and implements programs of interest to adults
- Collaborates with the Youth Services department on library-wide events
- Coordinates Outreach Services and supervises Outreach staff
Additional or Specialized Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides reference and readers’ advisory service and technical assistance to patrons
- Assists the staff and public in use of Library resources, including print, non-print, and electronic resources
- Has primary responsibility for the Periodicals Collection
- Develops displays, bibliographies, indexes, and research aids
- Contributes information relating to Adult Services for social media
- Keeps current in new technology and reference tools and techniques
- Keeps abreast of professional literature in the field
- Acts as point person for adult book discussions that meet at or through the library
- Collaborates with the Kane County Genealogical Society on local history and genealogy programs and services
- Participates in professional activities related to the Library
- Participates in continuing education
- Attends work-related meetings or functions outside the Library, as deemed necessary by the Library Director. These might fall outside regular working hours
- Other duties as assigned. May include: Working at the Circulation desk as needed, work in Technical Services as necessary, training of new Library staff in duties and procedures, scheduling of meeting rooms, voter registration, assistance with Library publicity and special events, opening and closing of Library building, acting as staff member in charge in the absence of the Library Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with public and staff
- Must enjoy working with the public and have commitment to public service
- Current knowledge of library materials, practices, and technology
- Current knowledge of library software applications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, networked environments, online resources, and the Internet
- Computer troubleshooting skills a must
- Familiarity with print and electronic reference sources
- Must have ability to communicate well in both spoken and written English
- Must be willing to work some evening and weekend hours on a regular basis
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous public library experience
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- MLIS from an ALA accredited library school is preferred
HOURS AND AVAILABILITY:
Full time
36 hours a week.
Some nights and weekends required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
- Salary starting at $55,000 depending on experience and qualifications
